Structural Engineer / Project Manager / Senior Inspector
Responsibilities included:
- Prepare Proposals and other Business Development Activities;
- Structural Inspections, Investigations, Reviews, Studies, Assessments, and Reporting;
- Structural Analyses including site visits, identifying issues, repair / rehabilitation alternatives, repair / rehabilitation alternative cost estimates, recommendations and discussions and contractor scopes of work;
- Bridge Condition Surveys including site investigations, half-cell corrosion potential surveys, covermeter surveys and the bridge condition survey report;
- Environmental Screening including the required documentation and discussion with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Utility Companies (Ontario One Call), Transport Canada and Conservation Authority, Ministry of the Environment, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada
- Project Specific Health and Safety Plans;
- Interpret results using relevant Software Applications;
- Preliminary design and reporting including detouring/staging, dewatering considerations, rehabilitation / replacement alternatives (including discussions on advantages, disadvantages and recommendations of the alternatives), structure geometry consideration and preliminary construction cost estimates;
- Detailed design including all contract drawings, contract specifications & tender documents, tender consultation, addenda and construction cost estimates;
- Contract Administration including performing construction liaison, and the resolution of design related construction issues;
- Review engineering documents including reports, shop drawings, technical specifications, tender documents, contract documents, cost estimates and schedules;
- Review construction work for compliance with the contract and code specifications; and
- Quality Verification Engineering (QVE) reports including site investigations.
Assistant Project Manager
Responsibilities included:
- Liaise with City Departments, external agencies and consultants, as required, providing investigation, information to address / resolve inquiries, advice / direction and assistance regarding facility issues / inquiries;
- Study existing systems and / or problems to identify issues / problems, determine the nature of necessary corrective measures required, the appropriate timing of the works, and whether the works are best performed under normal maintenance programs, or should be carried out through the City’s Capital Works program;
- Consult with management, stakeholders and City staff to research / review relevant data and literature to develop lifecycle needs;
- Develop materials and resources related to specific projects;
- Undertake studies of existing infrastructure systems such as Structural Adequacy Reviews, Building Condition Audits, Designated Substance Reviews, and Engineering Investigations for the City;
- Prepare and evaluate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and recommend appointment of resources;
- Examine proposals for projects from various levels of government, the private sector, and utility agencies;
- Manage field data collection programs pertaining to infrastructure under investigation, including consultant studies on existing conditions, proposed developments, and possible improvements to the City’s infrastructure systems;
- Manage and coordinate all aspects of consultant assignments in order to complete the necessary investigations and studies to assess current asset conditions and identify lifecycle needs;
- Provide project management functions as needed;
- Manage project delivery within determined scope, budget and schedule;
- Prioritize and provide lifecycle needs, general preliminary scopes of work, timelines, and cost estimates for the RIVA database based on the completed investigations and studies;
- Deliver identified project outcomes, provision of input and direction to stakeholders, contractors and consultants;
- Establish and maintain file records / databases for construction history, infrastructure needs, feasibility studies, physical condition and capacity data, easements, engineering consultant reports, and any other material related to infrastructure systems; and
- Perform other related duties consistent with those outlined above.
Structural Engineer (Technical II)
Responsibilities included:
- Prepare plans, including AutoCAD drawings, designs, calculations, analysis in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings and other specifications;
- Prepare engineering documents including reports, technical specifications, contract documents, cost estimates and schedules;
- Assist in proposal preparation and other business development activities;
- Interpret results using relevant software applications;
- Perform inspections of transportation structures ;
- Perform construction liaison, resolve design related construction issues; and
- Review construction work for compliance with the contract and code specifications.
Structural Designer / Inspector
Responsibilities included:
- Detailed design including all contract drawings, contract specifications, tender consultation, addenda and construction cost estimates;
- Preliminary design and reporting including detouring/staging, dewatering considerations, rehabilitation / replacement alternatives (including discussions on advantages, disadvantages and recommendations of the alternatives), structure geometry consideration and preliminary construction cost estimates;
- Bridge and Culvert Rehabilitation / Replacement Study including site investigations and reporting;
- Design of guiderail systems, traffic barriers, foundation systems (based on geotechnical reports) and reinforcement arrangement;
- Shop drawing review;
- Building structures analysis and design including load transfer analysis, sizing of structural elements (i.e. columns, beams, footings) and providing a scope of work for the contractor;
- OSIM Inspections, Enhanced OSIM Inspections and Bridgemaster Inspections as per the last OSIM (Ontario Structure Inspection Manual) including forms, photos, BCIs (Bridge Condition Indices), structure summaries, bridge management studies and 10-year capital plans;
- Bridge Condition Surveys including site investigations, half-cell corrosion potential surveys, covermeter surveys and the bridge condition survey report;
- Investment Analysis Reports (IAR) including site visits, identifying issues, repair / rehabilitation alternatives, repair / rehabilitation alternative cost estimates, recommendations and discussions and contractor scopes of work;
- Quality Verification Engineering (QVE) reports including site investigations;
- Environmental screening including the required documentation and discussion with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Utility Companies, Transport Canada and Conservation Authority;
- Project Specific Health and Safety Plans; and
- Proposals for structure repairs/rehabilitation / replacement (building and bridges/culverts), RFSOs (Requests for Standing Offers), OSIMs, etc.
Engineering Assistant
Responsibilities included:
- Site investigations, sales assistance, contract review;
- Design of Air Handling Units (AHUs), boiler systems, chiller systems and localized room controls;
- Design of mechanical layouts as per specifications provided;
- Design electrical drawings as per specifications provided;
- Select and size valves, dampers, Variable Air Volume Boxes (VAVs), Terminal Equipment Controllers (TECs), thermostats, sensors, transmitters, actuators etc. and other equipment as required;
- Develop sequences of operations;
- Prepare schedules for equipment;
- Design Direct Digital Control (DDC) panel layouts to meet the project requirements and create point databases for the DDCs;
- Layout of power trunk and FLN for the control system;
