You know those commercials for products that ask you to, "Call right now to order!" Well that was my domain during my years at The Shopping Channel. I was part of the TSC Direct team distributing As Seen on TV products through retail and TV/online direct sales. My sole responsibility was to make sure our products were "As Seen on TV." I managed everything from collaborating with production companies to create compelling commercials, initiating the call centre to create a program for a quick conversion from caller to customer, overseeing the creation of customized websites and booking the commercial airtime in English/French and multiple length formats. I built strong relationships with product vendors, broadcast suppliers and third party companies in order to maximize resources and ensure product success. All my campaigns were coupled with a strong online presence utilizing online search engine marketing and social media.

The world of outdoor advertising is literally larger than life and it was exciting to expand my advertising knowledge to include large scale banners, digital screens and placed based media. I was a versatile, conscientious and dependable member of the sales team offering support and financial tracking for the Toronto office. At the time an Inside Sales Executive was a new role developed to provide an extra layer of support to the Account Executives. Our sales team sold advertising on Shaw's 10+ stand alone conventional stations and 15+ digital stations to advertising agencies and client direct. The role of Inside Sales Executive was two fold; First to support the Account Executives by handling annual contract renegotiations, preparing with sales presentations and booking approved contracts. The second part was to build a data base of direct clients by cold calling and converting potential leads into new clients.
To say that working in television sales is a fast paced environment would be an understatement. Canadian television is directly affected by the scheduling changes in the USA. As result Advertising Sales Coordinators spend their day revising and renegotiating commercial airtime based on programming changes to ensure clients received the same quality they originally booked. Simultaneously clients also request changes to their originally booked contracts which include cancelling, shifting, heavy ups and converting booked airtime to different length formats. It was hectic but being proactive, organized and diligent paid off and not after too long I was promoted to Team Leader of the Sales Coordinators on our team. Besides the daily maintenance I was the liaison between the Coordinators and Sales Executives, contributed to hiring of new talent, doing performance reviews and resolving conflicts.

I love television and what better way to spend my day then putting together advertising schedules that were a good fit for the product, cost effective and impactful. I spent over two years as a Broadcast Media Buyer purchasing radio and television airtime in English and French for some of the largest companies in Canada.
